Rockingham County Regional Overview
Welcome
to Rockingham
County, North Carolina's North Star. Our location in the northern piedmont triad
region and our picturesque terrain provided by the gently rolling foothills of
the Blue Ridge Mountains make Rockingham County the perfect place
to experience nature's splendor.
Rockingham County's affordability and close proximity
to the
Piedmont Triad make it an attractive designation for homebuyers looking
to relocate to the region. The Piedmont
Triad is a region of North Carolina in the
Piedmont that consists of the area centered around the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem,
Highpoint, and Burlington. The area is connected by Interstate Highways
40, 85, 73, and 74 and is served by the Piedmont Triad International Airport. It has long been known as one of the primary
manufacturing and transportation hubs of the southeastern United States.
The
county is made up of six municipalities: the cities of Eden and Reidsville,
and the towns of Madison, Mayodan, Stoneville and Wentworth. Specialty shopping can be found in each. You'll find shops filled with a plethora of
extraordinary items, including choice fashions and apparel, exquisite rugs,
magnificent home furnishings, stunning crystal and rare antiques. One of our finest jewels is Karastan, which
has been making some of the world's most beautiful carpets and rugs here for
almost seventy-five years.
Rockingham County's lakes and rivers are a haven for
water sports and outdoor enthusiasts. Belews Lake in western Rockingham County spans more than eighty-eight miles and over thirty eight hundred acres. Here, lake view homesites offer breathtaking
scenery.
Lake Reidsville offers more than seven hundred
fifty acres of action-packed fun, from camping, fishing, boating, water skiing,
hiking, picnicking and more.
Finally, Rockingham County's terrain is the perfect setting for
some of the most scenic and challenging golf courses in the region. Our moderate climate makes golf a year-round
sport.
Come and
experience all that Rockingham County has to offer. There is something for everyone!
Planned Civic and Equestrian Centers
The
McMichael Civic Center
A twelve
plus million dollar civic center will be built on the campus of Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, our
county seat. The McMichael Civic Center plans include an
exhibit hall with flexible space to accommodate trade shows, conferences, and
large meal functions. The performing
arts theater's 1000-seat design will make it the ideal setting for musical
concerts, theatrical productions and guest lecture presentations. The center will also house offices for non-profit
and community organizations. An
exhibition gallery area, reception lobby, outdoor plaza and gardens complete
the center's plan to make it a true center of activity for Rockingham County.
Horse Park of the South, Piedmont Triad N.C.
Rockingham County has secured a 152-acre tract at
the corner of Barnes St. and Hwy 29 – future Interstate 785, for a proposed multi-purpose equestrian
center. Rockingham County would host the only such
facility between Raleigh, NC, Lexington, VA,
and Ashville, NC. This
geographic location is even more significant due to the lack of a larger
multi-purpose equestrian center within a 100-mile radius of Central Piedmont
North Carolina (including South/Central Virginia). Though served by several smaller, mostly
private centers for sale of livestock and other farm produce, the area is not
served by any type of multi-purpose center with training facilities. RockinghamCounty is ideally
positioned to fill this geographic gap in equestrian facilities.
